The background, practice, and qualifications behind Varuna Space's technical and acquisition advisory.
Varuna Space is the independent practice of a space systems architect whose career began at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in the early 1990s — supporting SpaceLab payload missions and researching life-sustainment systems for future long-duration spaceflight.
The three decades since have been spent entirely in the defense and national security space domain: signal processing and radar systems engineering at Lockheed Martin; electronic warfare, sensor software, and secure communications at Northrop Grumman; and advanced remote sensing, SIGINT, and space program advisory across SAIC and Leidos — a progression from hands-on algorithm and software engineering to chief engineer and chief architect roles on some of the community's most consequential space programs.
Most recently, that experience has centered on the proliferated-constellation era: leading the technical capture of a first-time DoD prime award for a commercial space company against nine established primes, architecting LEO constellations end to end — spacecraft, payloads, secure networking, and ground — and advising on enterprise architecture across rapid-acquisition space programs.
That work is underpinned by an MBA focused on strategy and innovation, an MS in computer engineering, and post-master's certificates in systems engineering and electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University — alongside active PMP and INCOSE CSEP-Acquisition certifications.
Registration to practice before the USPTO as a Patent Agent (Reg. No. 55088) supports intellectual-property strategy for advanced technology, and a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (in progress) anchors current research at the intersection of AI and space domain awareness.
